As a tourist in the US, please don't go around taking random pictures of stuff. It could get you blacklisted and the subject of an international manhunt.
Of course, your rights as a photo taker can always just be ignored when it suits the authorities. As well as your right to privacy.

Journalistic sensationalism. When it is overt, it isn't pretty and we can all see through it. What grrrs me is the subtle sensationalism. Take, for example, this article in the NYTimes about the trend of an increasing proportion of new cars sold being of the compact or subcompact variety. Not surprising. The thing that kills it for me is the anecdotal quote that is thrown into middle of the article:
Dave Strom of South Boston, Va., recently bought a tiny Smart ForTwo Passion Coupe, made by Daimler, the German automaker.
“I had to smile the other day when I filled my tank for $18 and the guy next to me had a Ford Explorer and the pump was clicking past $80,” said Mr. Strom, a 66-year-old retired manager of a Chevrolet dealership.
$18. To "fill up a tank". On Smart's website, the vehicle is specified by the manufacturer as having an 8.7 gallon tank. Assuming he had a gallon and a half left before he filled up, that is still 7.2 gallons going in. And at the current average price of $3.50 a gallon, well, that is $24.50. Not $18.
That's right. Grrr.

Did you think you were the only one with trouble flying the friendly domestic skies?
Of course, not, but it could be worse. Like the air marshalls who have names identical to those on the secret "no-fly" list who are not being let onto the airplanes to do their jobs. Thank goodness the government is doing everything it can to provide this blanket of "safety".

I thought stoner rule number 1 was don't call your mom when you are getting stoned. Apparently, this teen forgot that rule, and ended up with a large search and rescue effort in the mountains.
It is interesting to see the progression of the story as new information is released. The first article on the search describes it as a successful search and rescue of a man who got lost hiking. Of course, I'm sure the rescuers already knew that the teen was "gorked" when the found him.
